MEETING IDEAS
A SWEET OUTREACH
Mention chocolate and the women will come –or so our Women’s Ministry discovered last May when we put on an evening of "Everything is Better with Chocolate”.  This was to be our last event of the season before summer holidays and we were looking to do an outreach to the women of our community as well as the various other churches here and in the surrounding area.  It also seems to be a challenge to attract younger women out to WM events so we were hoping to reach this group as well.  Chocolate was our inspiration!

We had a chocolate fountain flowing in the centre of the room with lots of goodies for dipping as women came in. We had to re-fill the fountain three times! This was a great way for the women to mingle and get to know one another.

A Chocolatier from a shop called Alexander’s in Georgetown came and gave a demonstration of different  decorating ideas with chocolate. Along with the items she made in her demonstration she also brought gifts for prizes –all chocolate of course.

Before the evening was over one of our ladies gave her testimony.  Pam is usually a ‘behind the scenes’ type of lady who is willing to help out wherever she is needed, but God seemed to be pulling her out of that comfort zone and asking her to stand up front and share her story. To help her with it we had Wendy be the reporter and ask questions so that the story was given interview style. Pam didn’t have to stand up there alone but her journey of how God had worked in her life was shared.

Our church services are held in a high school so for our WM events we have been fortunate to have the use of a basement hall of a local church here in Erin.  For our chocolate night it was a tight squeeze as we seemed to have maxed out the capacity of the room !  A wonderful way to end the season.

Looking For A Way To Stay Connected During Summer?

With the summer approaching the leadership team of our WM was looking for ways to keep women connected over the  summer holidays . We knew we wanted to keep it easy, informal and with not a huge commitment  involved.  We also wanted to keep it flexible so new people could join in. What we came up with we called the "Breakfast Club”.

Every Saturday morning ladies met at a local restaurant for breakfast.  As we didn’t know what the response would be we made a schedule from  our leadership team of two’s. Meaning every Saturday there would be at least 2 ladies there from our team for breakfast joined by anyone else who could make it.  That way if no one else came you at least had company for breakfast!  Each week saw different women come out which was great.  Some weeks 2 or 3 ladies, other weeks we had to pull up another table to fit everyone in. You could come for just coffee or for a full breakfast.  You could come before work or to start off a relaxing Saturday.

The flexibility was great as people came and went for holidays or other activities and we were able to keep in touch and pray for one another.

We knew we were on to something when the men tried to get in on things and join us for breakfast.  We said fine but they had to sit at their own table!

We recently had a planning meeting and decided that the Breakfast Club was definitely worth doing again this summer so if you find yourself in Erin this summer and need breakfast look for us. Submitted by Leslie Thorpe—WM Leader at Erin Village Alliance Church

Are you wanting to set up a Secret Sister Program?

Owen Sound Alliance Church wanted to share with you the way that they set up their Secret Sister program so we have provided the downloadable form at the bottom of this page.  They have included a page of guidelines that they follow as well as a questionaire page that each lady fills out and hands in.  Once all the forms have been collected they photocopy the information and hands it in to their church secretary, who then randomly picks out the sisters.  Once picked, she puts the information in the mailboxes for the women to pick up.  The secretary keeps a list of the matches and no one else knew until the final night when the secret sisters are revealed.
Please click on the downloadable PDF file in the chart below to read all off the details.
