Licensing

If you feel God has called you into ministry and wish to work as part of The Alliance family, the next step is to begin the licensing process. The licensing process is a necessary requirement prior to placement in ministry in the The Alliance for all persons serving 15 hours per week or more in a paid local church ministry role. Local church ministry is defined in The Alliance’s Manual as having “a primary focus on meeting the spiritual needs of people and/or providing church leadership.”

A church may choose to have a preliminary conversation with a candidate prior to candidating, however, successful completion of the licensing process is a prerequisite to hiring.

Requirements for approval for licensing include:

  • Foundational working knowledge of the Bible and biblical theology

  • Display of godly character and a consistent Christian lifestyle

  • A keen sense of mission

  • Full agreement with the doctrines and teachings of The Alliance Canada

  • Completion of the application package

  • A successful interview with the Licensing and Ordination Committee

Candidates who are in a conversation with an Alliance church and are desiring to become licensed access the application package below. Once all completed application materials are received from the applicant, an interview will be scheduled with members of the Licensing and Ordination Committee. Interviews are held monthly.

"As you give God your time, your gifts, your resources and talents, He will use them to have a critically important and eternal impact on this world."

Types Of Licensing

The Alliance Canada grants three types of licenses: non-portable, portable, and emeritus. Licenses are only granted for those with a ministry placement within The Alliance. People wishing to join The Alliance may go through the licensing process and receive a “pre-approved for licensing” status allowing Alliance churches and New Ventures to know that a candidate has been successfully vetted.

Portable License

Non-Portable License

The portable license is for persons who are called, gifted, and appropriately trained to serve the Church at large both within the setting of a local church and/or in other ministries. Persons holding the portable license are eligible for ministry anywhere within, or on behalf of, The Alliance Canada. All senior pastors and non-local church licensed personnel shall carry the portable license unless specifically authorized by the licensing authority.

The non-portable license shall be for persons who are called and gifted to serve in a particular local church or as an International Worker in a particular ministry.

Requirements:

a) Theological training at a bachelor’s degree level from an accredited Bible college, college, or university; or

b) Any bachelor’s degree or for candidates who are strong theologically, its equivalent as decided by the licensing authority, plus the completion of a diploma/certificate program from an Association of Theological Schools (ATS) or an Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) accredited institution or other such institution as approved by the licensing authority.

“The Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her own vulnerable self. That is the way Jesus came to reveal God's love. The great message that we have to carry, as ministers of God's Word and followers of Jesus, is that God loves us not because of what we do or accomplish, but because God has created and redeemed us in love and has chosen us to proclaim that love as the true source of all human life.”
